Chile’s Ministry of Public Works (MOP), through its concessions authority, awarded Sacyr Agua S.L. the concession to design, finance, build, and operate a desalination plant in the Coquimbo region of Chile to address water scarcity and ensure long-term potable water supply. The Sacyr Aguas SL submitted the best financial offer, surpassing the PDAM Mamanchay Consortium, comprised of COX WATER SL and COINTER CHILE SA.
The Desalination Plant for the Coquimbo Region involves an estimated investment of US$318 million and an operating period of 21 years from its Provisional Commissioning. The project will be located in the Panul Cove and includes the design, construction and operation of a seawater desalination plant with a total capacity of 1,200 liters per second (l/s), and an initial operation of 800 l/s, intended for human consumption and multipurpose purposes. The initiative includes the maritime works, the reverse osmosis plant and a distribution pipeline 18.7 kilometers long to the tanks with a total capacity of 8,000 m³.
