Chile’s Ministry of Public Works has announced that the Bicentennial Cable Car project, which is currently 45% complete, is projected to be operational in Q1 of 2027 and will connect the municipalities of Providencia, Las Condes, Vitacura, and Huechuraba in 13 minutes, a 45-minute reduction in travel time.

This project represents an investment of nearly USD 80 million and marks the first sustainable transport initiative of its kind developed under the public works concession model. Spanning 3.4 km, the system will feature 19 towers and 121 cabins, each accommodating up to 10 passengers. Operating at 12-second intervals, the cable car will have the capacity to transport around 6,000 passengers per hour in both directions, easing congestion along existing routes. The project includes three stations: Canal San Carlos, near the Costanera Center Mall, Parque Metropolitano, and Santa Clara Station in the Huechuraba Business City, and a break point near the Mapocho River. The stations will have elevators, escalators, and expanded stations, ensuring universal accessibility and modern infrastructure.

An estimated 620,972 residents of communities such as Las Condes, Providencia, Huechuraba, and Vitacura (2017 Census) will directly benefit. Additionally, users in the northern part of Santiago will be able to access Metropolitan Park. The project is currently 45% complete and is projected to be operational in Q1 of 2027. It also has four work fronts: Punto de Quiebre, San Carlos, Parque Metropolitano, and Santa Clara. Finally, as an overhead system, the project directly contributes to pollution control and reduced vehicular traffic in critical areas. It will also facilitate the territorial and urban integration of the communities by connecting residential, commercial, and business areas, promoting access to transportation.
