Sacyr presented its proposal for the Ruta Pie de Monte Highway Concession project, which involves an estimated investment of USD 355 million and will allow for the construction, operation, and maintenance of a new dual-carriageway route of approximately 20 km.
The bidding process continues with the opening of bids on October 28th, which would allow for the awarding of the project in March 2026, the start of construction in 2030, and its entry into operation in 2033. This initiative contemplates a concession period of up to 45 years (540 months).
The route of this new roadway solution, which seeks to generate alternatives to relieve traffic congestion in the Greater Concepción metropolitan area, is located east of the current Route 160, bordering the Nahuelbuta Mountain Range, connecting with the Industrial Bridge to the north and with Route 160, Tres Pinos Section – North Access to Coronel to the south. This alternative will alleviate traffic flows on Route 160, giving it a more urban feel and preventing trucks and long-distance traffic from passing through residential areas.
The Pie de Monte Route includes a road system with signage, lighting, grade-separated crossings at its main intersections, and evacuation routes in case of tsunamis, significantly improving connectivity in the area. These include six grade-separated interchanges, a bridge over La Posada Lagoon (approximately 300 meters), seven cross-road crossings, two viaducts, safety systems, sanitation, drainage, landscaping, and irrigation. The project also includes an electronic toll collection system with "Multi Lane Free Flow," in line with the implementation of this technology on concessioned routes throughout the country.
