Webuild and its consortium partners have won a EUR291million (US$290 million) contract to upgrade and widen Lot 3, a section of the Caransebes-Timişoara-Arad, to improve connections between Bucharest and the western part of Romania.

The project involves the design and construction of almost 14 km of railway between East Timisoara and Ronat in western Romania, the upgrade of a single-track line to a double-track line, the construction of three stations, five bridges and four overpasses on the section that crosses the urban area of Timișoara and creation 600 direct and indirect jobs.

Lot 3 is a part of a Trans-European Transport Network (TEN - T) Rhine - Danube Corridor Extension Project, which aims to increase traffic speed and capacity along the Caransebes - Timişoara - Arad railway between Bucharest and Timisoara and, as a result, passenger trains will be able to move at speeds up to 160 km/h, and freight trains – up to 120 km/h.
