The Chilean Ministry of Public Works has reached an agreement to continue advancing in the construction of the hospital network in Biobío. The four hospital facilities represent an investment of US$325 million, which will benefit more than 400,000 people from the municipalities of Lota, Coronel, Nacimiento and Santa Bárbara.
This concession includes the construction of low, medium and high complexity hospital establishments, which together will provide 569 new beds to the healthcare network.
The Coronel Hospital will be a medium-to-high complexity facility serving approximately 308,000 residents of Coronel, San Pedro de la Paz, Santa Juana, and other surrounding communities. It will have 353 beds, distributed as follows: 60 basic care beds, 257 intermediate care beds, and 36 critical care beds; in addition to medical, dental, and non-medical consultation rooms, procedure rooms, operating theaters, and comprehensive birthing suites.
The Lota Hospital will be a medium-complexity facility serving approximately 48,000 people in the municipality. The hospital will have 132 beds, distributed as follows: 41 basic care beds and 91 intermediate care beds, in addition to medical, dental, and non-medical consultation rooms, procedure rooms, operating theaters, and comprehensive birthing suites.
The Santa Bárbara Hospital will be a low-complexity facility serving 22,000 residents of the municipalities of Santa Bárbara, Quilaco, and Alto Biobío. It will have 37 beds, medical, dental, and non-medical consultation rooms, a minor surgery suite, and a delivery room.
The Nacimiento Hospital will be a low-complexity center serving approximately 36,000 residents of the Nacimiento and Negrete districts. It will have 47 beds, medical, dental, and non-medical consultation rooms, a minor surgery suite, and a delivery room for imminent childbirth.
