Japanese telecommunications company KDDI has announced that it will help develop the first subway which connects the northern city of Valenzuela and the southern city of Parañaque in the metropolitan Manila area by constructing telecom and fare collection systems in the Philippines.

KDDI will be in charge of constructing telecommunications infrastructure, including pipe components and cabling. Additionally, the company will install servers and equipment related to fare collection, such as ticket gates and vending machines. KDDI's responsibilities cover approximately 30 km of the subway, spanning 15 stations from East Valenzuela to Ninoy Aquino International Airport's Terminal 3, a train depot, and the operations control center. The subsidiary, KDDI Philippines, has entered into a contract with Thales, a French company providing transportation systems for this project.

This Project aims to improve social issues such as traffic congestion and air pollution and is being carried out as a part of Japan's ODA (Official Development Assistance) in the form of loan aid. The subway, connecting Valenzuela in northern Manila to Paranaque in the southern region, is slated for completion in 2029.
