The Private Investment Promotion Agency (PROINVERSIÓN) has promoted the execution of the Project for the Collection, Production, Transportation and Primary Supply of Drinking Water to the SEDAPAL Distribution System in North Lima, which includes the construction of a modern seawater desalination plant, which will be located in the district of Ancón.
The Ministry of Housing, Construction, and Sanitation granted a favorable opinion of relevance to this self-financed private initiative, presented under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) modality without co-financing, meaning it will be fully funded by private investment, without compromising state fiscal resources. The objective is to guarantee the supply of drinking water to the northern districts of the capital and to ensure the water supply for the operation of the Ancón Industrial Park (PIA). The desalination plant will produce 86,400 cubic meters of drinking water per day and will be able to close one of the most significant water gaps in the capital, benefiting more than 570,000 residents, especially in vulnerable areas in Ancón, Santa Rosa, and Ventanilla, where families only receive drinking water once a day.
The first desalination plant in North Lima will require an estimated investment of US$204.77 million and will include transportation systems, pumping stations, networks, and quality control mechanisms. It will also maintain efficient operation and international quality standards to ensure supply in the face of droughts, mudslides, and other climatic events.
