The Municipal Corporation of Manesar (MCM) has initiated preparatory work for a 20-acre Waste-to-Energy (WTE) project, in coordination with the Haryana Directorate of Urban Local Bodies, at Kasan village in Manesar, Haryana, India.
The municipal corporation has commenced preparations to fence the recently acquired 10-acre land parcel, completing the 20-acre site designated for the proposed WTE plant. The corporation had previously taken possession of a fenced 10-acre plot and has now secured the remaining 10 acres. Fencing of the newly acquired land is expected to be completed within 15 to 20 days. Once commissioned, the facility will process municipal solid waste (MSW), including household and commercial waste, and convert it into energy.
The municipal corporation has invited bids to appoint a contractor for fencing the additional land acquired by the Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC) for the proposed project. The WTE project received a boost in March 2026 when the Directorate of Urban Local Bodies (ULB) constituted a committee to prepare a model Request for Proposal (RFP) for similar facilities across major municipal corporations, including Manesar, Gurugram, Faridabad, and Hisar.
The proposed WTE facility will be implemented through a PPP model. To support such initiatives, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has issued a model RFP framework to assist states and urban local bodies in developing technically viable and financially sustainable WTE projects. The designated committee has been tasked with preparing techno-economic feasibility studies, identifying suitable project locations, assessing municipal waste availability, formulating the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) framework, estimating project costs, and evaluating environmental compliance requirements, including the disposal and management of residual waste.
