The Ministry of Public Works (MOP) and Santiago Airport have inaugurated the new National Terminal building at Santiago Airport, Chile.
The project, backed by a US$60 million investment, doubles the original capacity of Santiago Airport’s National Terminal to accommodate 20 million passengers annually. It includes 104 check-in counters, 50 self-service kiosks, 12 baggage claim areas, and 49 commercial spaces. Completed after two years of construction, the final phase of the terminal’s modernization and expansion was inaugurated on September 3, 2025. The $60 million upgrade addresses a 56% rise in domestic passenger traffic since 2015, when Nuevo Pudahuel took over the airport’s concession, enhancing its role as a key connectivity hub.
The project expanded the number of boarding gates from 22 to 38 (25 with jet bridges and 13 remote) and doubled the baggage claim carousels to 12, available during peak demand. A new east boarding area with six additional security machines was introduced, providing direct access to Gate B to shorten passenger walking times. A direct connection to Gate D, usable for both domestic and international flights, enhances airline operational flexibility. The terminal also features an upgraded commercial area with 49 outlets, comprising 23 retail shops and 26 dining options. Additionally, five lounges, currently in the bidding process, will be added to elevate the passenger experience starting in 2025. Combined, Terminals T1 and T2 enable Santiago Airport to handle 38 million passengers annually, reinforcing its position as a key air connectivity hub in Latin America. The renovation of the Domestic Terminal (T1), spanning 35,000 m², was completed in two phases. The first phase introduced a new domestic arrivals area, while the second phase, completed in September 2024, opened the T1-A building, adding 17,334 m² and eight new boarding gates.
