The Private Investment Promotion Agency (PROINVERSIÓN), the Regional Government of Arequipa, and the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC), through the National Port Authority (APN), signed an inter-institutional cooperation agreement to promote the international bidding process for the Megaport of the Americas – Corío. This project will position Peru as a logistics hub in the South Pacific and integrate it with major international maritime trade routes, including those to Asia.
The agreement, signed during the IX Regional State Council held in the Huánuco region, has a two-year duration and establishes a framework for cooperation among the aforementioned institutions to promote the viability of the port project. PROINVERSIÓN will design, lead, and manage the promotional process through private investment mechanisms, ensuring a transparent and attractive process for world-class port developers and investors. The Megaport of the Americas – Corío, located in the province of Islay (Arequipa), is projected to become one of the most important maritime terminals in South America, thanks to its strategic location, natural depth, and operational capacity.
