ROBINSONS LAND CORP. (RLC) and the General Santos (GenSan) City government have signed a public-private partnership (PPP) contract for the PHP 2.33-billion (US$38.8 million) redevelopment of the city’s central public market.
Under the partnership, Robinsons Land will develop Palengke Heneral, the first modern marketplace in General Santos City, on a 23,126-square-meter site within a well-established commercial district. The project will provide over 14,800 square meters of floor space. The three-story facility will include designated wet and dry sections, upgraded sanitation systems, better ventilation, and enhanced security features, including closed-circuit television (CCTV) monitoring.
Palengke Heneral will incorporate solar panels to improve operational efficiency and lessen its environmental footprint, aligning with Robinsons Land’s sustainability efforts, such as its solar-powered mall in General Santos City. The redevelopment will also include a nearby three-story mall featuring an al fresco dining space with views of Sarangani Bay, adding lifestyle and leisure elements to the project.
According to Robinsons Land, the project strengthens its footprint in Mindanao as it continues to expand its portfolio of malls, hotels, and residential developments across major regional hubs. Under the agreement, the company will transfer the upgraded facility to the General Santos City government once the 25-year lease term ends.
