Fisia Italimpianti, a subsidiary of Webuild Group, has started operations at the Zuluf Water Treatment Plant built for Saudi Aramco in eastern Saudi Arabia.
Fisia Italimpianti, a subsidiary of the Webuild Group, has produced the first treated water at the offshore Zuluf oilfield in eastern Saudi Arabia from a new groundwater treatment plant developed for Saudi Aramco. The one-of-a-kind facility has a treatment capacity of up to 185,000 cubic metres of water per day. The facility is engineered to treat highly saline groundwater containing minerals, gases and hydrocarbons, converting it into water suitable for reinjection into offshore oil wells. This process helps maintain reservoir pressure and supports sustained crude oil production in the Arabian Gulf. At full capacity, the plant will process up to 185,000 cubic metres of water per day using advanced treatment technologies that remove contaminants, manage separated gases and minimise waste generation.
Fisia Italimpianti executed the project from design through construction and will operate and maintain the facility under a 25-year contract. The ZULUF project also marks the Webuild Group's entry into the high-value oil and gas sector, expanding its long-term service portfolio while drawing on Fisia Italimpianti's century of expertise in water treatment and desalination.
