Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 594-km Ganga Expressway with the Uttar Pradesh government and the Uttar Pradesh
Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) in Hardoi, Uttar Pradesh, India.
The government directed the UPEIDA to implement the project through the involvement of multiple construction companies. This strategy not only accelerated civil works but also enhanced transparency in the project’s execution. Developed at an estimated cost of Rs 36,500 crore (US$4 billion), the project was divided into four packages and assigned to two construction firms for execution of the civil works. The multi-package approach emerged as a key factor in ensuring the timely completion of this critical infrastructure project.
After opening to vehicular traffic, the expressway is expected to significantly reduce travel time between Meerut and Prayagraj while enhancing connectivity across 10 districts located along the corridor. The manufacturing and logistics hubs planned around the expressway are likely to drive long-term industrial growth in the state. In addition, the Ganga Expressway is expected to reduce logistics costs, strengthen industrial connectivity, and attract fresh investment opportunities.
