Colombia’s National Environmental Licensing Authority (ANLA) has approved the expansion works for the Autopista Norte under the Accesos Norte Phase II project, being developed by Concesionaria Ruta Bogotá Norte S.A.S. in Bogotá, Colombia.
Following the environmental authority’s approval and adherence to the stipulated conditions, the concessionaire can move forward with the approved preparatory and construction works. The activities must comply with the requirements of the environmental licence and include measures to safeguard the strategic ecosystems located within the project’s area of influence.
The Accesos Norte Fase II project spans approximately 17.96 km and is designed to enhance connectivity between Bogotá and the municipalities of northern Cundinamarca while helping to reduce congestion along this key regional transport corridor. The project will add two new mixed-traffic lanes in each direction, along with a dedicated TransMilenio lane between 191st and 235th Streets. Existing lanes will also be upgraded, while passing lanes for TransMilenio will be developed at the planned stations. The scheme further provides new infrastructure for pedestrians and cyclists, including sidewalks and cycle paths on both sides of the corridor.
The works will also include grade-separated U-turns at 235th and 242nd Streets, while studies and designs are being undertaken for the intersection at 201st Street. Overall, the improvements are intended to strengthen connectivity between different areas and enhance traffic and transport mobility along the corridor.
