The National Infrastructure Agency (ANI) and the Special Administrative Unit of Civil Aeronautics (Aerocivil) have advanced a joint plan with the “Puerta de Oro” private initiative group and cargo transport representatives to modernize Ernesto Cortissoz International Airport in Barranquilla, Colombia.
The initiative aims to assess key inputs for updating the Airport Master Plan and to evaluate future passenger and cargo traffic projections to develop infrastructure capable of meeting long-term demand. In 2025, Ernesto Cortissoz International Airport served more than 3 million passengers and recorded cargo traffic growth of over 20,000 tons. Representatives from leading airlines joined the technical working groups to discuss concerns related to the cargo terminal and the investments needed to sustain operations. The developer behind the “Puerta de Oro” Private Initiative project also took part and is expected to submit feasibility studies for the airport modernization project by June 2026.
