The Colombian National Infrastructure Agency (ANI) has transferred the operation of the IP–Autopistas del Caribe freight corridor to the National Roads Institute (INVIAS) along the Cartagena–Barranquilla corridor in Colombia, following the end of the concession contract.
The transition marks the end of the concession period under Concession Contract No. 002 of 2021, with the concessionaire, supervision team, and ANI now beginning the contract liquidation process. As part of the transfer, INVIAS assumed responsibility for operating the 249.16-km corridor, including its associated infrastructure and the six toll plazas located at Gambote, Pasacaballos, Turbaco, Bayunca, Sabanagrande, and Galapa. The agency said the handover follows a structured reversal process carried out between February and June 2026, during which ANI and INVIAS jointly completed technical inspections, asset inventories, and documentation to ensure a seamless transition.
According to ANI President Oscar Torres, the reversal represents a key milestone in ensuring the orderly completion of the concession while maintaining uninterrupted operation of one of Colombia's most important freight transport corridors. The state takeover is intended to guarantee continuity in road services, toll operations, and maintenance as the infrastructure moves from private concession management to direct public administration.
The Colombian government has signed the contract for the El Estanquillo–Popayán highway project.
