Brazil's northeastern state of Bahia has authorized tender processes totaling BRL 2.17 billion (US$ 390 million) for the expansion of the subway network in the capital, Salvador, and the acquisition of new trains.
Out of the total investment, BRL 1.52 billion (US$ 274 million) will be dedicated to building a 1.105-km tunnel extension as part of Section IV of Metro Line 1. Bid submissions for this segment are scheduled to open on August 18, 2025. The Bahia state metro system, which spans two lines and 42 km of track, is operated under a public-private partnership (PPP) with local infrastructure firm Motiva.
Additionally, the government has approved the launch of a tender for the purchase of 10 new trains—each with a capacity of 1,250 passengers—to enhance the Salvador and Lauro de Freitas metro fleet. This component of the project will involve an investment of BRL 648 million (US$ 116 million), with bids expected to be opened on September 1, 2025.
