Motiva Infraestrutura de Mobilidade, formerly known as CCR S.A., has secured a 29-year concession to operate and upgrade the 846-km BR-163 highway in Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil.
Brazilian infrastructure firm Motiva, previously operating under the name CCR, emerged as the sole bidder to secure a highway concession in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, which entails an estimated investment of approximately BRL 17 billion (US$3 billion). The company won the 29-year concession for the reoffered 846km BR-163/MS highway by proposing a toll rate of 7.52 reais per 100 km.
The initial 30-year concession was granted in 2013 to CCR MSVia, a subsidiary of Motiva, but was eventually relinquished due to the heavy upfront investment demands and setbacks in obtaining environmental permits. Over the past ten years, the company has also encountered various obstacles, such as road blockades, a decline in traffic caused by an economic downturn, increased input costs, and challenges in securing financing.
