Chile’s Ministry of Public Works (MOP), through its Roads Directorate, is advancing the construction of a new 15-km road connection between Route 66 (Ruta de la Fruta), Route 78 and the Port of San Antonio in the Valparaíso Region, with construction reaching 80% completion.

The works on the final section of the Ruta de la Fruta (Fruit Route), known as the San Juan Bypass, include a new 15-km expressway. Among the main projects planned for this section of Route 66 are the construction of the Las Brisas Interchange and the Maipo, San Juan, and Las Lajas viaducts. Furthermore, the design of these viaducts incorporates the necessary features for future expansion of the road infrastructure's capacity. The Fruit Route, stretching approximately 141 km, begins at the intersection with Route 5 South in the Pelequén area (O'Higgins Region), crosses the southern part of the Metropolitan Region, and ends at the access road to the Port of San Antonio in the Valparaíso Region. The concession represents an investment of approximately US$632 million.

The project includes the construction of a new 840-metre-long bridge parallel to the existing structure across the Maipo River, aimed at improving connectivity and easing traffic congestion between the municipalities of San Antonio and Santo Domingo. The bridge will be supported by more than 200 foundation piles, some extending nearly 50 metres below ground. The works are being undertaken by the Directorate of Roads with an investment of more than CLP 69 billion. Construction is scheduled for completion in the second half of 2028.
