The Ministry of Public Works (MOP) of Chile, together with Sociedad Concesionaria Autopista del Maipo, has formally launched the Construction of the Curicó Service Road through a groundbreaking ceremony. The project is intended to improve road connectivity and provide more direct access to the Provincial Hospital of Curicó. The ceremony was attended by representatives of the MOP, the provincial government, the municipality, Autopista del Maipo, Carabineros, and the local health service. 

The project involves constructing approximately 880 metres of one-way roadway along the western side of Route 5 Sur, between Archipiélago Juan Fernández Street and Avenida España in Curicó. The new service road will create a dedicated entrance and exit to the hospital, making it easier for patients and healthcare personnel to reach the facility, particularly its emergency department. 

The road will also include lighting along its entire length, with the aim of improving safety for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists. The new connection is expected to improve traffic circulation around the hospital and provide a safer and more convenient access route from Route 5 Sur. 

The works have an estimated construction period of one year and require an investment of more than CLP 1.9 billion (US$2 million). Although the planned execution period is one year, authorities have proposed encouraging an earlier completion, targeting the first half of 2027.
