Plenary Group, as part of the Plenary Conventions consortium and in partnership with the Victorian Government, has completed major construction of the Nyaal Banyul Geelong Convention and Event Centre alongside key partners, including Built, Woods Bagot, and BGIS in Geelong, Victoria.
Delivered as a public–private partnership by the Plenary Conventions consortium in collaboration with the Victorian Government, the AU$449 million (US$314 million) project is now entering its final stages, with testing and fit-outs underway ahead of its official opening scheduled for July. The convention centre is a large, modern facility designed to host a wide range of events. It includes a 1,000-seat theatre, exhibition and flexible event spaces, meeting rooms, conference facilities, and food and beverage areas, along with a public plaza featuring outdoor dining and a large LED screen. In addition, a 200-room Crowne Plaza hotel has been developed as part of the precinct, enhancing its ability to accommodate visitors and event delegates.
The project is part of the broader AU$676 million (US$472 million) Geelong City Deal, a partnership between the Australian Government, the Victorian Government, and the City of Greater Geelong aimed at boosting the region’s visitor economy. During construction, the project generated significant economic benefits, creating more than 1,400 jobs, training 250 apprentices, and engaging hundreds of subcontractors and suppliers. Once operational, it is expected to create hundreds of ongoing jobs in tourism, hospitality, and events, while attracting conferences and visitors to the region.
