The Government of São Paulo, through the Secretariat for Investment Partnerships (SPI), held the auction for the Paranapanema Lot and declared Infra BR, part of the Pátria Group, the winner, which submitted a proposal with an 11.60% discount on the state’s maximum annual payment, set at about BRL 310 million (US$57 million).
With an estimated R$5.8 billion (US$1 billion) investment over 30 years, the concession will fund upgrades aimed at enhancing safety along stretches of the Raposo Tavares (SP-270) and other linked highways. It positions Raposo Tavares as a key agribusiness corridor in southwestern São Paulo, linking Itapetininga and Ourinhos, while also bringing improved safety, traffic flow, and logistical efficiency to 11 additional municipalities in the Marília and Sorocaba regions. The concession encompasses 285 km of roads, including stretches of SP-270 (Raposo Tavares), SP-189 (Eng. Lauri Simões de Barros), SP-278 (Mello Peixoto) and their access routes. Plans include widening more than 150 km, along with the addition of walkways, bus stops, shoulders, frontage roads, and grade-separated as well as at-grade crossings. Infrastructure upgrades will also deliver LED lighting in urban zones, CCTV cameras, variable message panels, improved connectivity, weigh stations, and ambulances for on-road medical support. Operations will feature round-the-clock monitoring, incident management, traffic enforcement, towing, and emergency assistance, all tied to strict performance standards where penalties apply for noncompliance—underscoring the commitment to safety and efficiency.
The regional impact directly reaches Angatuba, Bernardino de Campos, Buri, Campina do Monte Alegre, Canitar, Chavantes, Ipaussu, Itaí, Itapetininga, Ourinhos, Paranapanema, Piraju, and Tejupá. The complete duplication of the Raposo Tavares stretch transforms the highway into a strategic alternative to the Castello Branco (SP-280), connecting the interior and Central-West regions to the Port of Santos and reducing logistical bottlenecks. The Paranapanema Lot, together with the Nova Raposo and Rota Sorocabana concessions awarded in 2023, creates a fully duplicated, upgraded corridor along the Raposo Tavares Highway, improving traffic flow and easing demand on the Castello Branco. A key innovation is Siga Fácil (Easy Follow), an electronic tolling system that replaces traditional plazas by charging users according to the distance traveled, using automatic tag and license plate recognition. This system, which enhances safety and efficiency by eliminating queues, will only be activated once free frontage roads are in place—ensuring local neighborhood trips remain toll-free and separating urban from long-distance traffic. Under Artesp’s supervision, Siga Fácil guarantees that drivers pay solely for the distance they drive, while also helping reduce congestion and accidents.
