The Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) is planning to develop a green and sports corridor in partnership with a private developer under a PPP model in Sector-O, Aliganj, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India.

Drawing inspiration from Seoul’s Cheonggyecheon stream redevelopment, the LDA plans to convert a 14.71-acre green belt in Sector-O, Aliganj, into a sports and recreational corridor featuring a private sports arena, landscaped parks, pedestrian walkways and the redevelopment of an existing drain. The LDA has finalised the master plan, with the 8.40-acre northern section set to be developed through a PPP and the remaining 6.31 acres to be developed by the authority at an estimated cost of around Rs 6 crore. The PPP facility will feature football and box-cricket turf courts, indoor badminton courts, a cricket practice pitch, a cafeteria and kiosks, with the private partner responsible for its maintenance. 

The portion to be developed by the LDA will comprise three themed zones, including a 2.55-acre children’s park adjoining Aliganj Stadium. The park will feature play areas, fitness equipment, seating, a gazebo, yoga and walking spaces, jogging and reflexology tracks, and two pickleball courts. Other amenities will include a shallow stream, sand pit, landscaped mounds, cycling and skating areas for children, toilets, a snack counter and a vending zone. A major element of the project will be the redevelopment of the drain running through the green belt, with landscaped banks, pedestrian walkways and seating areas planned to transform the neglected water channel into a public space inspired by Seoul’s Cheonggyecheon redevelopment.

The request for proposal (RFP) for the PPP component was nearing completion, with the tender expected to be issued within a few days. The project is intended to create additional open spaces for residents of Aliganj and nearby areas, offering facilities for sports, walking and recreation. The green belt is divided into four sections: an 8.40-acre northern section, two central sections measuring 2.38 acres and 1.38 acres, and a 2.55-acre section adjoining Aliganj Stadium. The LDA’s total expenditure on the project is estimated at around Rs 6.5 crore (US$0.67 million), excluding investment from the private PPP partner.
