The São Paulo state government, through its Infrastructure Partnerships Program (PPI‑SP), is preparing a 24‑year public-private concession to revitalize the Estrada de Ferro Campos do Jordão tourist railway.
This park, which has been closed since March 2020, holds significant cultural and historical importance for both residents and the wider region, particularly due to its ties to the literary works of Monteiro Lobato and its strong potential as a tourist attraction. The future concessionaire will be responsible for the complete revitalization of the park, which covers an area of 38,000 square meters. Planned interventions include: renovation of electrical and plumbing systems; stabilization of structures at risk of landslides; cleaning, dredging, and maintenance of the banks and vegetation along the Piracuama River; and the restoration and preservation of artworks related to Monteiro Lobato’s literary universe. The projected investment exceeds BRL 6.5 million (US$ 1.1 million).
Beyond the revitalization of the Reino das Águas Claras Park, the project also includes the refurbishment of the 47-km tourist railway line, the Railway Memory Museum, various train stations, workshops, and other cultural landmarks along the route. The area offers significant tourism potential and aligns closely with the Campos do Jordão and Capivari state parks, which have already been transferred to private management.
