Highland, Aberdeen City, Aberdeenshire, and Moray Councils have entered into a GBP 300 million (US$ 406 million), 20-year agreement with EasyGo to enhance electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure across northern Scotland.
This initiative aims to install 570 new charging points by 2028, more than doubling the existing network in the region. EasyGo will also assume responsibility for maintaining all current council-owned public charging stations. The project is supported by over GBP 7 million (US$ 9.4 million) in funding from Transport Scotland's GBP 30 million (US$ 40 million) Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Fund, designed to foster public-private partnerships for expanding Scotland's EV charging network. This collaboration represents the first inter-council contract of its kind in Scotland and marks the largest grant awarded since the fund's inception. It aligns with the Scottish Government's broader objective to add approximately 24,000 public EV charge points by 2030, complementing the existing network of over 6,000 public chargers.
