A Development Agreement was signed between West Northamptonshire Council and the English Cities Fund (ECF)—a joint venture comprising Homes England, Legal & General, and Muse for the Greyfriars regeneration project in Northampton, UK.
Key Highlights of the Regeneration Plan:
Corn Exchange Transformation: The historic Corn Exchange building will be revitalized into a new leisure destination, serving as a cultural anchor for the area.
Belgrave House Redevelopment: Plans include converting Belgrave House into spaces for community and interim uses, fostering innovation and community engagement.
Public Realm Enhancements: The project envisions a landmark public space featuring an outdoor amphitheatre, enhancing the town's cultural and recreational offerings.
Mixed-Use Development: The regeneration will introduce new homes, shops, cafes, and restaurants, contributing to a dynamic and vibrant neighbourhood.
An estimated £1 billion (US$ 1.3 billion) in economic value is anticipated from the development, with an additional £21 million (US$ 28 million) in annual spending projected from new residents and visitors. The partnership will now focus on refining the master plan and engaging with the community to shape the development approach. This collaborative effort aims to ensure that the regeneration aligns with the needs and aspirations of Northampton's residents.
