The Agencia Nacional de Infraestructura (ANI), together with the concessionaire Operadora Internacional Aeropuerto de Cartagena (OINAC), has launched the first phase of the expansion and modernization of the Rafael Núñez International Airport terminal — including a 1,880 m² enlargement of the façade and main hall — at the airport in Cartagena, Bolívar, Colombia.
The renovations to the facade and main hall are divided into three phases, which include the relocation of the road, which will result in the closure of the two lanes on the right side of Calle 70A (access road to the airport); as a mitigation measure, the two lanes on the left side will be enabled for the circulation of public transport and private vehicles will circulate through two lanes enabled inside the parking lot of the air terminal.
These works, forming a key part of the airport’s expansion and modernization programme, are expected to take seven months. During this period, the main hall will undergo refurbishment, and a new glazed façade structure with acoustic and thermal insulation will be added to enhance comfort and improve conditions for passengers and the wider airport community. The upgrades build on recent enhancements already completed at the terminal, including the installation of an automated access control system (Veripax), an enlarged waiting area, and improved ventilation systems designed to ease indoor environmental conditions.
