Chile's Ministry of Public Works (MOP) has awarded the US$355 million Ruta Pie de Monte highway concession to Sacyr Concesiones Chile SPA in the Biobío Region, Chile, to build, operate and maintain a new 20-km dual-carriageway road.

The new highway, designed to ease congestion across the Greater Concepción metropolitan area, will run east of the existing Route 160 along the foothills of the Nahuelbuta Mountain Range. It will connect the Industrial Bridge in the north with the Tres Pinos–North Access to Coronel section of Route 160 in the south, diverting freight and long-distance traffic away from residential areas while allowing Route 160 to function as a more urban corridor.

The Pie de Monte Route includes a road system with signage, lighting, grade-separated intersections at its main crossroads, and evacuation routes in case of tsunamis, significantly improving connectivity in the area. In addition, it features six grade-separated interchanges, a bridge over Laguna La Posada (300 meters), seven crossings for cross-road traffic, two viaducts, safety systems, sanitation, drainage, landscaping, and irrigation. In addition, the project includes an electronic toll collection system with "Multi Lane Free Flow", in line with the implementation of this technology on the concessioned routes throughout the country. The project is projected to begin construction in 2030 and become operational in 2034.
