The City of Westerville has partnered with altafiber to design, build, and deploy a citywide fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) broadband network across Westerville, Ohio, with construction set to begin in 2026 and completion targeted within three years. 

The City of Westerville has joined forces with altafiber to deploy its advanced multi-gigabit XGS-PON fiber network throughout the community. Construction is expected to commence this summer, with the rollout aiming to provide residents with access to high-speed, reliable fiber broadband services within the next three years. A key feature of the initiative is its innovative PPP model, under which the fiber infrastructure will be delivered without the use of municipal capital funding. This approach enables the city to expand access to next-generation broadband while minimizing the financial burden on public resources.

Westerville has established itself as a technology leader in Central Ohio through its municipally operated Electric Department and WeConnect, the city's community-owned data center. The partnership with altafiber reinforces the city's commitment to adopting innovative infrastructure solutions that improve residents' quality of life while strengthening its appeal as a destination for businesses and employers. Under the agreement, altafiber will maintain a long-term presence at the WeConnect data center to support local broadband services and will work with the City to install underground fiber in strategic locations, reducing construction and excavation costs. The collaboration is also expected to generate additional revenue for WeConnect while expanding altafiber's reach to a broader customer base.

Upon completion of the three-year rollout, residents of Westerville will gain access to high-capacity fiber broadband capable of supporting remote and hybrid work, online learning, telehealth services, and other bandwidth-intensive applications. As part of the project, altafiber will extend its fiber-to-the-home network to approximately 15,000 addresses in and around the city.
