Ferrovial, through its UK construction business and in partnership with MWH Treatment, has been appointed to one of the two contracts under Anglian Water’s Major Projects Framework. Announced on 21 October 2026, the appointment strengthens Ferrovial’s presence in the UK water sector and supports Anglian Water’s £11 billion AMP8 investment programme. The framework, valued at up to £1.5 billion across both contracts, will support major water supply, wastewater treatment and water recycling infrastructure projects across the East of England.
The framework aims to improve the resilience of water networks, strengthen environmental protection and provide the infrastructure required to support population growth, housing development and business expansion. The region faces increasing demand for reliable water and wastewater services due to major developments, including the Oxford–Cambridge Growth Corridor, Sizewell C and the proposed Universal Studios resort in Bedford. The investment aims to ensure essential water infrastructure can meet future demand while protecting the environment and supporting regional economic growth.
The initial projects for the Ferrovial and MWH Treatment partnership are expected to include Anglian Water’s coastal water improvement programme, valued at more than £200 million. The works will focus on improving coastal water quality, reducing stormwater discharges and addressing bacteriological pollution. The wider programme is intended to protect bathing waters and coastal environments while delivering long-term benefits for local communities. The framework will also support the development of strategic water and wastewater assets during the AMP8 and AMP9 investment periods.
The announcement also builds on Ferrovial’s existing involvement in UK water infrastructure. Earlier in 2026, the company secured an approximately £80 million contract to upgrade Slough Sewage Treatment Works for Thames Water through a joint venture involving its UK construction business and water subsidiary Cadagua. Ferrovial has also delivered the central section of the Thames Tideway Tunnel. The new Anglian Water appointment represents a further step in expanding its UK water-sector portfolio and contributing to essential infrastructure investment.
