Ferrovial, through the DriveTN consortium, has been selected by the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) to deliver the I-24 Southeast Choice Lanes project in Tennessee, US.

The 26-mile project will introduce Choice Lanes in both directions along I-24 between Nashville and Murfreesboro, aimed at improving mobility on one of the region’s most congested routes. The Ferrovial-led DriveTN consortium, comprising Transurban and Tikehau Star Infra, will be responsible for financing, designing, constructing, operating and maintaining the US$9.2 billion project, which is expected to generate approximately US$24.8 billion in concession value for Tennessee.

The I-24 Southeast Choice Lanes project is designed to deliver a cost-effective mobility solution and improve travel-time reliability along the corridor from I-40 east of downtown Nashville to I-840 near Murfreesboro. Drivers using the Choice Lanes are expected to benefit from more predictable speeds during peak traffic, while motorists using the free general-purpose lanes should also benefit from reduced congestion and improved traffic flow.

Ferrovial has implemented a similar managed-lane model in several rapidly growing U.S. metropolitan areas, including Dallas-Fort Worth, Charlotte and Washington, D.C. On Virginia’s I-66 Express Outside the Beltway corridor, comparable express lanes have cut peak-period travel times by up to 50% while improving journey-time reliability. Ferrovial aims to apply this experience in Tennessee to deliver long-term improvements in mobility and support the region’s continued economic and population growth.
