The Karnataka Medical College and Research Institute (KMC‑RI) in Hubballi is preparing to launch the state’s first in‑vitro fertilization (IVF) centre within a government hospital, and it will operate under a Public‑Private Partnership (PPP) model. All infrastructure and medical equipment on the second floor of the MCH building’s OBG department have already been installed, but the start of operations was delayed due to extended deliberations at the government level on how the facility should be run, particularly because there were no existing guidelines on pricing for medicines and tests for government beneficiaries. After discussion, the Finance Committee recommended implementing the PPP model, which is expected to enable more affordable IVF treatments—typically costing ₹2.5–3 lakh—so that economically weaker patients can access them at reduced rates.

The tender process has been initiated, and once government approvals are in place, the centre is expected to begin functioning soon, providing much‑needed relief to couples who otherwise may not be able to afford fertility care.
