PROINVERSIÓN signed an agreement with the Provincial Municipality of Ilo to take over and promote the Ilo Desalination Project in Moquegua, Peru, aiming to strengthen sustainable drinking water production, storage, and distribution for more than 134,000 residents through a PPP model. 

Under an agreement signed with the Provincial Municipality of Ilo, PROINVERSIÓN will structure and promote the co-financed Ilo Desalination State Initiative project, which aims to ensure sustainable drinking water access through seawater desalination and enhanced surface water production systems, benefiting around 134,000 residents in the districts of El Algarrobal, Pacocha, and Ilo in Peru’s Moquegua region. The project will optimize surface water extraction from the Pasto Grande system with a capacity of 211 liters per second, while also introducing seawater intake through a new desalination facility capable of processing 452 liters per second. In addition, the Pampa Inalámbrica drinking water treatment plant will be upgraded and expanded with ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis technologies to eliminate boron and other inorganic substances, ensuring safe and high-quality water for residents.

The project also includes refurbishing and upgrading four existing reservoirs, along with the construction of three additional reservoirs to enhance water storage and distribution infrastructure. The investment will be fully state-co-financed, with temporary assistance provided for operation and maintenance expenses to support long-term service sustainability and encourage private sector involvement under established efficiency and quality benchmarks.
