The Rafael Núñez International Airport obtained Aerodrome Certification from the Civil Aeronautics Authority of Colombia, after a rigorous evaluation and approval process, in compliance with the Colombian legal framework and international aviation standards.

Securing this certification meets the standards set by the Aeronautical Authority to guarantee operational safety and alignment with international aviation rules, positioning the airport as a regional reference. With this accreditation, the terminal is recognized as a strategic hub in the Latin American–Caribbean region and can serve as an alternate airport for various types of operations.

As part of its international operations, Rafael Núñez International Airport will inaugurate the Katowice (Poland) – Cartagena route on November 11, with weekly flights until January 14. The upcoming direct connection to Madrid (Spain) has also been confirmed, scheduled to begin in July 2026. Both routes will be operated by World2Fly. Finally, in December 2025, the airport reactivated its winter season with Air Canada, offering direct flights from Toronto and Montreal. The arrival of these important European and Canadian air operations solidifies Cartagena's position as a top-tier Caribbean destination for international tourism.
