The Government of São Paulo delivered, in Atibaia, the State School Cientista Hideki Yukawa, the third unit built under the New Schools PPP program in the state and the first of the initiative in the Bragança Paulista region.
Located in the Nova Cerejeiras neighborhood, the new school can accommodate up to 1,040 students in the upper grades of elementary school and high school. Developed under the New Schools PPP, the facility features modern infrastructure comparable to leading educational institutions. Under the partnership, the private concessionaire is responsible for services such as maintenance, facility management, furnishings, and technology, allowing school leaders and teachers to focus on teaching and student learning.
Classes at the new school will commence in the second half of the academic year, with 488 students enrolled initially. Enrollment will increase in phases until the school reaches its full capacity, while the São Paulo state school network is set to resume classes on July 24. Constructed on a 7,115-square-meter site, the school features modern learning facilities, including classrooms, innovation labs, a reading room, study spaces, an auditorium, cafeteria, kitchen, covered courtyard, sports gymnasium with bleachers, media center, and administrative and teaching areas. The campus also includes accessible restrooms and changing rooms designed to accommodate people with disabilities.
The new school supports the expansion of São Paulo's Full-Time Education Program in the region. The Bragança Paulista Education Board currently oversees 35 full-time state schools serving around 15,100 students, while the number of full-time schools across the state has increased by 12% compared with the previous year. The New Schools PPP program will deliver 33 schools across 29 municipalities in São Paulo, combining private investment in the construction, operation, and maintenance of school infrastructure with educational management that remains under the State Secretariat of Education. The PPP's East Lot, which includes the Atibaia school, is expected to receive R$2.1 billion (US$405 million) in investments over the 25-year concession period.
