Two consortia have submitted technical and economic offers to the Dirección General de Concesiones (under Chile's Ministry of Public Works) for the Sistema Nacional de Alerta Temprana de Tsunami project across Chile's 16 coastal regions, which will allow for the construction and implementation of a network of 1,029 sirens to notify the population living in coastal areas of potential tsunamis. Proposals were received from the Emergency Infrastructure Consortium, made up of the companies Icafal Inversiones SA and Dominion, and from the Tsunami Early Warning Consortium (GATT), composed of the companies Globe, Gilat, Finvest, and Lafcarr Project & Design.

The initiative consists of a network of audible and visual alarm stations, including a redundant communication system and control centers, which will be installed in all 16 regions of the country. The national control center will be located in the Metropolitan Region. This will allow for effective notification of the entire population living in coastal areas, particularly those at risk or in danger, in the event of a tsunami. The total number of sirens considered in the project will be 1,029 units, which includes 1,003 new sirens and 26 existing ones (Arica and Parinacota and O'Higgins regions) that will be modernized and integrated into the system coordinated by the National Service for Prevention and Response to Disasters (SENAPRED), thus providing coverage to the national territory. The alarms will be installed on an 11-meter-high steel pole with a support for solar panels and energy storage batteries. These sirens will emit a sound wave that, in case of danger, will alert the population so that residents can move to the safe zones established in each town's evacuation plans. The activation of this system will be carried out remotely, either from SENAPRED's regional offices for the siren points in each region, or from SENAPRED's central office in Santiago, which will have access to all regions and will also serve as a backup. Additionally, portable kits for satellite activation are included, in case it becomes necessary to evacuate SENAPRED's offices to activate the system.

The project entails an investment of approximately USD 113 million and a 20-year concession period. The bidding process continues with the opening of the financial bids on February 10, after which the contract is expected to be awarded in June 2026. Construction could begin in October 2027, and the project is expected to be operational by July 2030.
