The Ministry of Economy and Finance, through the Private Investment Promotion Agency (PROINVERSIÓN), awarded the Puerto Maldonado Wastewater Treatment Plant (PTAR Puerto Maldonado) project, which will allow the treatment of 100% of the wastewater generated in the Madre de Dios city, benefiting more than 190,000 people. 

Awarded to the Puerto Maldonado Sanitation Consortium, the project will enable effective treatment of the city’s wastewater, helping to reduce pollution in the Tambopata and Madre de Dios rivers. It will also deliver significant public health benefits by lowering the prevalence of waterborne illnesses, including diarrhea and cholera. The project, valued at over US$150 million, encompasses the design, financing, construction, operation, and maintenance of the system over a 24-year concession period. It includes the installation and rehabilitation of 192 km of primary and secondary sewer lines, the addition of 20,000 household connections to the sewer network, the implementation of pumping stations with their respective force mains, and the closure of obsolete infrastructure.

In addition, the concessionaire will provide technical support to the Sanitation Service Provider, the Municipal Water and Sewerage Company of Tambopata (EPS EMAPAT SA), strengthening service management and ensuring compliance with environmental standards.
