The Government of Jharkhand, through its Transport Department, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tata Motors Ltd. to establish the state's first Institute of Driving Training and Research (IDTR) in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand.

The proposed Institute of Driving Training and Research (IDTR) will be developed on approximately 12 acres under a public-private partnership (PPP) model at an estimated cost of ₹22.30 crore (US$2.3 million). The Jharkhand Transport Department has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tata Motors for the project. While the institute will be owned by the state government, Tata Motors will provide its technical expertise to deliver driver training programmes. The facility will feature specialised driving tracks simulating various road conditions, advanced driving simulators, and infrastructure for both daytime and night-time training. It will also include separate hostel accommodation with 50 beds for men and 25 beds for women.

The training programme will consist of 30 hours of instruction, including 15 hours of practical driving sessions. In addition, the Transport Department is developing an online portal to link certified drivers with prospective employers. The platform will enable trained drivers to register their profiles, explore employment opportunities across different states, and improve their prospects of securing better-paying jobs.
