PROINVERSIÓN, together with concessionaire Covicentro, presented technical progress updates on the Longitudinal de los Andes highway project to regional authorities and civil society representatives in Ayacucho and Huancavelica.

At a meeting attended by regional and local authorities from Ayacucho and Huancavelica, officials outlined technical progress and upcoming works aimed at upgrading more than 965 km of roads linking Junín, Huancavelica, Ayacucho, Apurímac, and Ica, a project expected to benefit over 1.6 million residents. The update was delivered by Covicentro, the concessionaire responsible for the initiative, with participation from representatives of the Andean Consortium, the Ministry of Transport and Communications, PROINVERSIÓN, and civil society groups. The session also served to review the current status of the works and enhance coordination with authorities and local communities.

A technical inspection was also carried out along the Los Libertadores highway and the Mayocc sector, both included within the project’s intervention areas, where preliminary studies are being developed for the first phase of road rehabilitation and maintenance works. These assessments cover soil and pavement conditions, geological and geotechnical analysis, topographic surveys, and georeferencing activities. At the same time, routine road maintenance and cleaning operations are underway to support safe traffic conditions, while technical field data collection has reached 72% completion.

The planned works under the Longitudinal Highway of the Andes project include rehabilitating and upgrading the Huancayo–Izcuchaca section, including replacing the existing asphalt layer with rigid pavement. Improvements are also planned for the Izcuchaca–Mayocc corridor to enhance traffic efficiency and strengthen road safety conditions. In addition, the project also includes the construction of the 5-km San Clemente bypass, along with initial periodic maintenance and continuous operation and upkeep measures designed to ensure adequate service standards throughout the concession term. The modernization of this road corridor seeks to strengthen territorial connectivity, boost trade, promote tourism and improve the transport of agricultural products in five regions of the country, consolidating a strategic infrastructure for the development of central and southern Peru.
