Tower Hamlets Council has granted planning permission for the ambitious regeneration of the 1950s-era Teviot Estate in Poplar, approving the construction of 1,928 new homes, nearly quadrupling the current housing supply. The development—delivered via a joint venture between Poplar HARCA and The Hill Group, with masterplanning by BPTW and planning support from Lichfields—features 35% affordable housing across the whole scheme, with the first phase providing 411 affordable homes, including 202 family-sized units.
The master plan also incorporates diverse community infrastructure: retail spaces, offices, a mosque, nursery, community center, a pub, and extensive green and play areas, alongside enhancements to Langdon Park and improved pedestrian links across the A12 and DLR corridor. Phased demolition of existing blocks and phased construction across 21 plots are set to begin with the first phase in 2026, aligning with infrastructure improvements and resident involvement.
