PROINVERSIÓN has assumed ownership of the San Ignacio wastewater treatment project in partnership with the Provincial Municipality of San Ignacio in Cajamarca, Peru.

PROINVERSIÓN and the Provincial Municipality of San Ignacio in Cajamarca have signed an agreement under which the municipality transfers the role of Public Entity Owner for the project to PROINVERSIÓN. The agreement will facilitate the development of a co-financed PPP with an estimated investment of US$25 million. The agreement marks a significant step toward expanding and upgrading wastewater treatment services in the urban area of San Ignacio. The project is expected to improve residents’ quality of life, safeguard public health and support the sustainable development of the border province. As the Public Entity responsible for the project, PROINVERSIÓN will oversee the preparation and approval of the required studies, obtain the project’s viability declaration, incorporate it into the Private Investment Promotion Process, and manage the tender process through to contract award.

The project will be developed as a co-financed State Initiative under a PPP model. Currently in the formulation stage, it carries a preliminary investment estimate of US$25 million, with the investment fully co-financed and a portion of the operation and maintenance costs temporarily supported through co-financing. Once implemented, the project is expected to benefit more than 20,000 residents across San Ignacio province.

The project will enable the effective treatment and disposal of wastewater generated in San Ignacio, helping to reduce pollution in receiving water bodies and mitigate the health and environmental risks linked to inadequate wastewater management. It will also support the potential reuse of treated water, enhance the urban environment, strengthen the city’s tourism appeal and contribute to local economic growth. The proposed infrastructure will comprise primary wastewater collectors, pumping stations, treatment plants and a treated-water outfall. Monofills may also be included, subject to the findings of the technical studies undertaken during project development.
