The Private Investment Promotion Agency (PROINVERSIÓN) will take over ownership of the Wastewater Treatment Plant Project for the cities of Tarapoto and San José de Sisa in the San Martín region (PTAR San Martín), after signing an agreement with the Provincial Municipalities of San Martín and El Dorado.

The agreement enables PROINVERSIÓN to take the lead in structuring and promoting the project, which is expected to be declared of public interest soon and represents an estimated investment of US$300 million. The initiative seeks to address sanitation deficiencies and enhance the quality of life for over 430,000 residents in Tarapoto and San José de Sisa. Originally proposed as a co-financed private initiative, the San Martín Wastewater Treatment Plant (PTAR) project includes the design, financing, construction, operation, and maintenance of modern infrastructure for wastewater collection, treatment, and safe disposal. Key components comprise around 14 km of interceptor and collector pipelines, five pumping stations, and two treatment plants capable of handling an average flow of approximately 700 liters per second. 

The project's declaration of public interest is expected to be published during Q2 of 2026, to award a contract in 2026, in line with PROINVERSIÓN's strategy to accelerate the development of sustainable infrastructure projects in the regions.
