The Peruvian government has tasked PROINVERSIÓN with taking over the contractual management of the Ferrocarril del Centro (Central Railway) concession from the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC), with the aim of strengthening contract management and advancing railway infrastructure initiatives. The Central Railway concession is operated by Ferrovías Central Andina S.A. and covers approximately 489.6 km of railway lines, including the Callao–La Oroya–Huancayo route and branches to Cerro de Pasco and Huascacocha.

The new mandate is also intended to support the development of the proposed Lima–Chosica train, a project designed to improve rail connectivity between Lima and Chosica. PROINVERSIÓN's involvement places the project within the agency's broader role in structuring and managing private-investment projects and concession contracts. PROINVERSIÓN is an agency under Peru's Ministry of Economy and Finance responsible for promoting private investment through PPPs, projects in assets and other mechanisms.

The transfer is significant because PROINVERSIÓN already has responsibilities in the contractual execution of major railway concessions. In 2026, for example, it assumed the role of public project owner for the Huancayo–Huancavelica Railway following the new PPP regulatory framework.
