UK-headquartered project consultant Turner & Townsend has been appointed strategic delivery partner for Africa’s US$3.6 billion Usahihi Nairobi-Mombasa Expressway.
The addition of Turner & Townsend enhances the consortium’s capacity to execute the US$3.6 billion, 459-km transport corridor, a landmark project that will reduce travel time between Nairobi and Mombasa from over 10 hours to just 4–5 hours. Aimed at alleviating congestion on the A8 highway, the expressway will improve road safety and facilitate smoother movement of both passengers and freight. The initiative is expected to serve as a model for sustainable infrastructure across Africa, incorporating intelligent transport systems, electric vehicle charging facilities, wildlife crossings, and climate-resilient design principles.
Turner & Townsend will offer top-tier expertise in program management, governance, cost management, risk oversight, and project assurance, ensuring the Usahihi Expressway is executed with the highest standards of accuracy and accountability. The firm joins the Usahihi consortium, which includes Everstrong Capital, TRAC, Lotz to Develop, Ashitiva Advocates, Rebel, Andersen, CPF Group, and Kurrent, to collaboratively deliver this flagship infrastructure project.
The East African Community (EAC) has confirmed that construction of the Kenya-Uganda Expressway will soon begin, following successful deliberations between the two nations.
